Where Have I Been?
I was chastised last week for not writing here more, which makes me think, “Yay! Someone’s actually reading this!” So here’s what I’ve been noticing lately:
Archeology via Google Earth. Now that’s something that makes you go, “Huh.” Of course, the way things have been going for archeologists lately they’ll soon be building a dam and flooding the whole area, thus losing any chance they might have to learn something.
What? It’s under a river? Oh…nevermind.
Here’s what pissed me off last week, and made me sigh with a bit of relief this week. Thank god for the Washington Post is all I have to say. I can’t believe the U.S. would actually consider a pre-emptive strike! It makes us sound like every freak dictator who’s ever scared the crap out of the rest of the world over the last 50 years. Good god. Is this really who we are? If so, I’m moving to Canada.
I’m beginning to see a pattern here. Some neo-con writes a document, it gets leaked to the media, and the particular portion of the government responsible for the document backpeddles faster than the Road Runner. This time it’s the E.P.A.’s turn to do the That’s-Not-What-We-Meant Dance.
And then there’s some more science-bashing to enjoy. Okay, now I’m getting depressed. Maybe something more uplifting…
Indian-born filmmaker Mira Nair gave a speech in Minneapolis recently. She’s the director of such films as “Monsoon Wedding” and Mississippi Masala”, and she was truly fascinating to listen to. When you hear artists talk about their work like this, sometimes you end up thinking the artist is over-rated, and sometimes you’re inspired to seek out all their work. As for Ms. Nair, I am about to go type her name into NetFlix to put all her movies on my queue.
Melvis,
You are back.
I am glad.
But you know, with out the war machine … some of us would be sleeping in your living room.
How much are you willing to suffer for peace.
Let me know, got the sleeping bags ready…

ANd Also.
Didn’t you just love Monsoon Wedding?
It totally convinced me I have got to see more bollywood films.
And buy a sari

Re: # 1
Good gravy, you’re right. Thank god for the Dept of Defense, as it keeps my friends gainfully employed and out of my hair. Whew! What was I thinking? Pre-emptive strikes help me maintain my status as a recluse.
Re: # 2
I am all for the whole idea of saris. Brightly colored fabrics swathed around my body? I can get into that. As long as I can wear bike shorts or something under them so I don’t chafe.
(Uh…too much information?)

perhaps we combine these two ideas… a military in saris?
drop the green and go with saffron and scarlett. Halibuton could get the sari contract and no one would be upset. Instead of breaking in to aggression we could break into songs wilst it rains?
one can hope..
